So to celebrate the recent launch of the book we're the below interview with super "plant people", Jeska and Dean Hearne, of the brilliant online lifestyle store The Future Kept and the Lobster and Swan blog.
Jeska and Dean share a passion for curating homewares and lifestyle products to create beautiful interiors that have timeless qualities. They also have an immense appreciation for greenery. Jeska and Dean have managed to establish a ‘working relationship’ between their plants and their two cats.
HOW MANY PLANTS ARE IN YOUR COLLECTION?

WHAT DO PLANTS MEAN TO YOU?
Everything. We love to be surrounded by green at home and work. We filled our home with plants to create an indoor garden for all seasons as we can only
really work on the outdoor garden for half of the year and on fair-weather days during winter.
WHAT TYPE OF PLANTS ARE YOU DRAWN TO AND WHY?
All kinds, we especially love our giant 16-year-old rubber plant, which was given to us by a local lady who was moving and had no room to take it with her. It is currently residing in the bathroom in the disused shower tray – while we renovate the kitchen!
TELL US ABOUT YOUR DAILY ROUTINE AND HOW PLANTS ARE INVOLVED.
We have filled our sunny home office with a mixture of cacti, succulents and trailing plants. We spend so much time in there that it’s great to work with a
backdrop of green. Having so many [plants], we need to keep an eye on certain ones daily. Some of the species with smaller leaves can dry out in a day
if neglected; a lot of misting happens, and watering every few days in the warmer months.
HOW HAS YOUR PET LEARNT TO LIVE WITH PLANTS? ANY HORROR STORIES?
Apart from knocking a few [plants] over and occasionally taking out their rage on succulents when we leave on trips for too long, nibbling the ends of our
ferns and giant aloe, [our cats] have been pretty good co-inhabitors.
WHAT CAME FIRST? PLANT OR PET?
The cats came first, the plants have slowly started to take over in the 4 years since we moved into our current home.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVOURITE PET FRIENDLY PLANTS?
Ferns, Haworthias and Tradescantia zebrina.
