Hardie Grant Explore is an umbrella brand for the wide range of guides, magazines, directories, books, maps and atlases published by Hardie Grant Publishing. By publishing this broad range of travel products - in both print and digital formats - for consumers and some of the highest profile tourism bodies in the country, we have developed extensive expertise, content, relationships, advertiser booking systems, and state and national networks. Hardie Grant Travel is now one of the largest, most diverse and innovative travel publishers in Australia.
Explore Australia, our proprietary imprint, publishes the most respected and authoritative range of travel publications in the country. It covers a wide variety of subjects, from walking and fishing, to camping and caravanning, and specialist subjects including historic sites, skiing, backpacking, national parks, beaches and ecotourism. All the Explore Australia titles have detailed and beautifully produced maps to support the information in them; Explore Australia also publishes stand-alone maps and atlases. Explore Australia updates thousands of pages of material every year using a network of researchers, tourism bodies and mapping authorities. It all adds up to an unparalleled geospatial database for travellers in Australia.
Hardie Grant has also just acquired Universal Publishers, Australia’s leading publisher of street directories. Universal’s publishing program also includes guides, maps and road atlases; all products are produced and marketed nationally under two of Australia’s most trusted and recognisable brands – Gregory’s and UBD.
In addition to Explore Australia and Universal Publishers, Hardie Grant works closely with and publishes for many of Australia's key tourism bodies including Tourism Australia, Tourism New South Wales, Tourism Victoria, AAA Tourism, NRMA, RACV, YHA (Youth Hostels Association), City of Sydney, SACL (Sydney Airport) and Business Events Sydney. We publish the Official Guides to Sydney, with a print run of one million copies per annum, as well as our own proprietary magazine,
This Week in Sydney
(as well as titles for Melbourne, Canberra, Darwin and Tasmania). The Sydney magazine was first published in 1957 and now reaches more than one million visitors each year.
We produce stylish magazines for Tourism Australia and YHA, the Wine Regions of Victoria touring guide for Tourism Victoria, and the annual AAA directories, the AAA Accommodation and Tourist Parks guides.
Hardie Grant Books is well known for its food and wine publishing and we have brought these skills to the travel sector with James Halliday’s award-winning
Wine Atlas of Australia
, as well as our Foodies' Guides to Melbourne and Sydney.
As travel publishing evolves and changes, Hardie Grant Travel is producing new-format products. Some are digital like
