Picture Books

Hardie Grant Egmont has a beautiful list of local picture books. Grandpa's Shed, Dancing With Grandma and Cooking With Grandma have cemented themselves as modern classics.

Henry the Goat is our stand-out picture book for 2011. The author, Ella Watkins is just fourteen years old. She has been drawing since she could hold a pencil, and first created the irrepressible Henry when she was eight. Henry proved to be so charming and fun that Ella was compelled to let him loose on the world. She self-published her first Henry adventure in 2008. We are thrilled to be working with Ella and the most enthusiastic goat of all time. Henry the Goat will be released January 2011.

Butterfly Ball And The Grasshopper's Feast, The
Acclaimed artist Alan Aldridge was responsible for a great many album covers during the 1960s and 1970s, and helped create the graphic style of that era. In 1973, he created a picture book, The Butterfl y Ball and the Grasshopper's Feast. The book was loosely based on the poem telling the story of a party for insects and small animals written in 1802 by William Roscoe. Aldridge's stunning illustrations of brightly coloured creatures were accompanied by verses written by William Plomer. Much to Aldridge's surprise, the book sold 50,000 hardback copies in its first three weeks of publishing, and went on to reach 250,000 by Christmas. It was translated into ten languages and sales reached over a million world-wide in its fi rst year. It spawned a cartoon movie, merchandise and a hit album by Deep Purple's Roger Glover. Now in this splendid new edition, this classic work will delight a new generation of readers.
