You all know Matthew, former chef, infamous food critic, author of numerous books, defender of the good life, argumentative food ethicist and the stalwart of 6 seasons of SBS's Gourmet Farmer. Well in his 'real' life, Matthew, with his wife Sadie, run Fat Pig Farm, a 70 acre mixed holding that grows food for their on-farm restaurant in the Huon Valley in Southern Tasmania.
In The Commons, Matthew writes about the daily goings on at Fat Pig Farm; a year of growing, cooking and feasting. True to type, now that he is a farmer... he also writes a bit about the weather!
This is a beautiful and very accessible book with real food that you will want to cook throughout the year; seasoned with pithy observations about the joys, challenges and life on a small holding. It’s part how-to, part evocative diary, but mostly part cookbook (with more than 120 recipes). It’s the perfect inspiration for those about to embark on a simpler life, a handy reference for those who already have done just that, and a vicarious solution for those who just want to dream the dream without leaving home.
Matthew will be joining us to share the stories that make The Commons a delightful read, and to chat about the goings on at Fat Pig Farm as well as taste a few dishes.
Please join us for a glass of good wine as we chat to Matthew about the good life on Fat Pig Farm - and all the hard work that that entails!
