Join us for an evening with Julia Banks in conversation.
Julia Banks is most well-known for resigning from the Coalition Government’s Liberal Party to stand as an independent MP after being subjected to years of ‘cultural and gender bias, bullying and intimidation’. This was not the first time Julia had to deal with workplace inequality, gender bias or intimidation. Before Julia entered politics, she had a long and successful career in the legal and corporate sectors. At every level, she’s had to navigate through the bias, barriers and boys’ clubs that aim to silence women or deter them from leadership roles.
Power Play, is more than a memoir. It reveals the unvarnished realities of any workplace where power disparities and gender politics collide: from the unequal opportunities, casual sexism and systemic misogyny, to pressures around looks, age and family responsibilities, and the consequences of speaking out. Along with personal stories, Julia shares practical advice, and a resounding argument for why women aren’t the problem – but why more women in decision-making positions will help us find the solution. This event is free to attend but bookings are essential.
